Both extremely interested in arts and design, the two founders of the artklause, Klaus Stute and
Harald Serwe, decided to rent a shared studio linking up their creativities.
The main focus is on furniture design and construction, especially on things made of solid timber with
a beautiful grain. On the other hand there is the sculpturing, also with a focus on wood.
At the grass-roots level you will find pure handcraft, i.e. buzz and chain saw carving :-)
The name "artklause" refers to the Klause, which is the name of the industrial area of the artists
The german word klause derives from the latin word claudere, i.e. to close. It is the name of a hermit's
cell as well as it is used in Germany in the names of pubs. So klause for us is absolutely a place of
reflection and sometimes a place of retreat too. But in contrast to the latin origin our klause is a place
of encounter and communication - not only of the participants, but also of the friends and visitors of the
wholefood shop around the corner, who after shopping have a look into our studio. However, primarily
our klause is a place of creativity and animation.
